Rep. Nehls Votes Against Senate Infrastructure Bill

November 9, 2021

On November 6, 2021, Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) voted against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 3684 – Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This bill adds approximately $400 billion to the national debt, with less than half of new spending going towards traditional infrastructure, and favors transportation modes that most Americans aren't using.  Following the vote, Congressman Nehls released the following statement:

"For months, Democrats have had intra-party fighting over the inextricable link between this infrastructure bill and their socialist 'Build Back Better' Act," said Congressman Nehls. "This package has the potential to erode the fabric of America as we know it. We are talking increased labor shortages, hiked taxes on all Americans, skyrocketed inflation, and a national debt increase that will cripple our children and grandchildren for generations to come. As TX-22 continues to experience extraordinary growth, I am in favor of smart, responsible infrastructure legislation that updates our roads, expands broadband to rural America, modernizes our environmental regulatory process, and gives states and local governments the flexibility to meet their own infrastructure needs. This bill does almost none of that. Instead, it advances a socialist wish-list guised as infrastructure. My vote was not only for the good of TX-22, but for the good of America."
