Rep. Troy E. Nehls Introduces Legislation to Honor Medal of Honor Recipient with Post Office Renaming

June 5, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) introduced legislation to rename the main post office at 1810 FM 1462 in Rosharon, Texas, in honor of a great American hero, Clarence E. Sasser, who passed away on May 13th, 2024, in Sugar Land, Texas.

Mr. Sasser was born and raised near Rosharon, TX. While serving in the United States Army as a medic during the Vietnam War, then-Private First Class (PFC) Sasser selflessly sprang into action to administer medical aid to his unit after they came under heavy fire from three different directions. Despite having incurred wounds and a tremendous loss of blood, PFC Sasser dragged himself through the mud to tend to his fellow wounded soldiers on an open rice paddy.

President Richard Nixon presented Specialist 5th Class Sasser with the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest and most prestigious military decoration, for his extraordinary heroism displayed that day.

“I am honored to introduce legislation to pay tribute to an American hero from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas, Mr. Sasser,” said Congressman Nehls. “Mr. Sasser is an inspiration for not only TX-22 but for our entire country. He embodies the very best of the United States, and renaming a post office in my district is the least we can do to commemorate his priceless service to our country.”

Last month, Congressman Nehls spoke on the House Floor following the passing of Mr. Sasser to honor his selfless service.
