Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes NO on a Continuing Resolution for Fiscal Year 2024

September 29, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 5525, the Spending Reduction and Border Security Enhancement Act. This legislation would extend government funding through October 31, 2023, by way of a last-minute Continuing Resolution, without the inclusion of E-Verify, a web-based system that allows employers to verify the eligibility of employees to legally work in the United States.

“When House Republicans took the gavel in January, we made a promise to the American people to pass 12 individual appropriation bills to avoid a Continuing Resolution in the first place,” said Congressman Nehls. “While this bill makes significant spending cuts and enhances border security, it allows illegal aliens to remain in our communities and continue to wreak havoc across the country. I remain committed to fighting against out-of-control, reckless spending. I refuse to adhere to the traditions of the Swamp. I remain committed to restoring fiscal sanity in Washington, D.C., and fight to always put America FIRST.”
