Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes NO on Foreign Aid Package

April 20, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22)released the following statement after voting ‘NO’ on three foreign aid bills for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act:

“This entire process is a dereliction of duty to the American people who trusted the Republican party with a House majority,” said Congressman Nehls. “Any supplemental foreign aid package should have been contingent on securing our own southern border, while also aiding our allies.

“This week, the House put forth three foreign aid bills for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as the 21st Century Peace through Strength Act. These four bills were packaged together to be sent to the Senate in a single bill.  Instead of putting the American people first and forcing Chuck Schumer’s hand by requiring border security with this foreign aid package, the House has sidestepped its responsibility to the American people.

“Speaker Johnson has stated that border security was our “hill to die on.” I agree. I’ve said time and time again that he has an impossible job. However, the number one issue for Americans today is the crisis at the border. It is my hill to die on, and I will always put America First. I voted NO on this sham package that puts America last.

“It is quite clear to me the only person that is going to address our southern border is President Donald J. Trump.”
