Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes to Prevent Avoidable Government Shutdown

November 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Today, Congressman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution that would extend funding for the Agriculture, Energy and Water, Military Construction and Veterans, and Transportation appropriations until January 19, 2024, and the remaining eight appropriations bills until February 2, 2024:

“House Republicans continue to lead the government spending fight by putting forth legislation that denies Senate Democrats, Senate Republicans, and the White House the opportunity to jam the American people with a bloated, un-scrutinized omnibus before the holidays. So far, the House has passed seven appropriations bills, which account for 75% of federal spending,” said Congressman Nehls. “Chuck Schumer’s Senate has only passed three appropriations bills, accounting for 17% of federal spending. The Republican conference is ungovernable, and we are certainly not in this situation because of Speaker Johnson. The plan laid out prevents a government shutdown, which would result in our nation’s servicemembers not receiving pay, flights being canceled during the busiest time of year for travel, and the Senate jamming the House with a massive, unchecked Christmas omnibus spending bill.”
